Summer Assignment info

Hello!

I am starting to get a lot of e-mails regarding the summer assignment.  It can be found on the right hand side of this page.  There are two links.  One for the terms and one for the actual assignment.  Read the directions.  They are very clear.

All parts of the assignment are due as a hard copy the first day of school.  No exceptions.  You must also have your assignment submitted to turnitin.com.  (Note: I apologize.  It used to say essay.  That was left over from last year.  There is not an essay.  You are submitting the analysis assignments for each passage to turnitin.com as one document.)

TEDx Youth San Diego

We are so excited that Valhalla High School has been selected to participate in the TEDx Youth Conference this year. 

We are looking for students who have demonstrated leadership skills both on and off the Valhalla campus. 

If you have not done so already, please go to their website to see what it is all about.  http://www.tedxyouthsandiego.com/

We can only bring ten students.  So there will be a committee that goes over your application to see if you are a good fit for this conference.

We will be letting you know soon.  APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY LUNCH ON FEBRUARY 23.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  Please submit them to Mrs. Sellers in room T-22.  Waivers and permission slips will be given once you are selected.

You will be providing your own transportation to the conference.

What you need to work on during Thanksgiving Break...

There are three things that will be due the week we come back from break.  Please stay on top of them.

1.  MC Practice #4 is due on 11/30.  We will also have a quiz that day.
2.  90/90 quizzes begin on 12/1.  Here is the list of terms you need to know.  The powerpoint is in the analysis folder.

3.  You need to read Huck Finn.  The quiz on Chapters 25-32 is on 12/3.

Extra Credit Opportunity

I will give you 20 points extra credit in the writing category if you participate and enter one of the following categories.  (Only 1 submission will be worth extra credit, but feel free to enter both contests!!)

You must provide me with your essay/ editorial cartoon and proof of entry.  I would need this by December 7th.

Helpful Terms to Know for MC #4

Here are some terms that you will see on the MC #4 Quiz.  You can find them in the terms packet I gave you.  It has a black rhetorical triangle on the front.  If they are not in there, look online.  A large chunk have to do with sentence structure.

Project Look-Around

Take some time today to look at the projects your classmates did.
1. Try to look at one of each type. Ex. padlet, wevideo, infographic, etc.
2. Look at a few others.
 3. Spend at least 10 minutes exploring other people's projects.
4. Then you can work on other stuff, like MC practice #4, read Huck Finn, etc,
